FAQs

Why do I need a proofreader?

Even if you have every confidence in your spelling, punctuation and grammar, everyone knows it is near impossible to proofread your own work. When you have spent hours writing, re-writing, reading and re-reading text, you become blind to errors, only reading what you think you have written.

A professional, external proofreader will be reading your content with a fresh pair of eyes. It doesn’t matter how few words your material has, having a proofreader review your writing will give you the reassurance you need that your work is error free.

What errors do you proofread for?

Here at Green Giraffe Proofreading we check your writing for the following as standard:

  • Spelling
  • Punctuation
  • Grammar
  • Capitalisation
  • Typing errors (e.g. omitted or transposed words)
  • Style inconsistencies (e.g. abbreviations, layout, graphics and terminology)
  • Numerical or alphabetical sequence errors

Additional checks can be added, at your request, such as checking of hyperlinks and branding, or checking sentence structure and marketing message.

What formats do you work with?

We aim to be as flexible as possible when it comes to formats that we work with. We can proofread ‘blind’ or against copy, and use either the BSI proofreading symbols or longhand annotations and comments.

Proofreading MS Word documents

Amendments of MS Word documents are implemented directly into the document and are carried out using the track changes facility so that you can see exactly what has been changed.

Proofreading PDF documents

PDF documents will be proofread on screen and any amendments will be marked up using a combination of commenting and either BSI proofreading symbols or longhand annotations at the client’s request.

Paper page proofs

Paper page proofs will be marked up using the BSI proofreading symbols in accordance with your house style. Longhand annotations can be used at the client’s request.

Do get in touch if you require proofreading of a format not listed, as we may still be able to help.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept payment via bank transfer or cheque.
